Patricia Whitewing - Artist's Statement

I've always used women as my subject, thinking I'd be a fashion illustrator or designer as a young girl. And as it turned out, I worked in New York as an illustrator in the beauty industry for many years.

The female portrayed as beautiful, strong, playful, as the goddess - this has been my interest, and where my talents lie.

I like to use animals and birds in my portraits and paintings whenever possible. They add a soulful and earthy element, and besides I just plain enjoy painting them.

I also love to inject a degree of humor into my work now and then. My goal is to do more of that. I like the combination of sophistication and humor. Being a bit whimsical myself, making your chuckle pleases me, it's my soul coming thru the work.

Sometimes I paint in oils, sometimes acrylics. It depends on the mood I'm creating. I underpaint the oils in acrylic. I use many layers of glazing, and build up slowly.

I hope you enjoy my work. For me, life is a dance, and art is to be enjoyed.
