Paintings » Linda Dodd Linda Dodd - Artist Statement "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." -Pablo Picasso It would be incorrect to say that I am a “self-taught” artist. I have never proclaimed to have taught myself how to paint. Except for the few oil painting classes that I did attend as a child (at the prompting of a grade school teacher), I can tout no formal training whatsoever. What I can say, however, is that I have always seen “life” in color – and when life is good – that artistic urge seeps from my pores until I simply must translate it via the language of color. If I don’t put in on canvas, I begin to paint anything that doesn’t move, and that is not always appreciated! A recent MFA graduate described my work as “Pollock and Picasso on Prozac.” After thinking about it a bit, I realized that I couldn’t have received a greater compliment. Linda Dodd is a resident of Madrid, New Mexico and has been painting since childhood. Her paintings were shown for the first time in a local gallery in early 2007 where she remained the top selling artist for over 9 months. Her paintings are in private collections, both nationally and internationally. She is represented in her hometown by Jezebel Gallery, and has participated in group and one-man shows in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. |
